cubs

Cubbies are looking good this week vs. the Brewers.  Cubs have taken 3 in a row and apparently it has caused some fan fighting.   My favorite part of that article is the last paragraph that reads:

“The 34-year-old Chicago area man also received a municipal ticket for assault and battery after police say he punched his sister in the mouth as she tried to intervene in the fight.”

Just found that to be hilarious.

I had a guy stop me today while i was running because he saw i was wearing a purdue shirt. So he told me he always like purdue because their sports teams were always middle of the pack. I wasn’t sure how to take that, but i just agreed with him.

entering bear country

Well, i’m pretty excited for a trip i just finalized that will be coming up in September. I’m going to meet a friend up in Spokane, Washington and then drive over to  Glacier National Park for a few days. It should be a good trip to close out my exploration of the western united states. Then as soon as i get back i will have to pack up my car and make the drive from Phoenix back to Indiana, to start the next chapter in my life.

I’m really looking forward to it. A lot of exciting things on the horizon. Getting to see family and friends more often will be a nice change. Not too mention a new, exciting, and challenging job will await. I’m interested to see if my desire to living in other parts of the country will still be as strong when i move back, or if that will be mostly quenched after being back near family and friends. Hopefully everything i have learned about myself and life in general will make my next Indiana experience much more exciting. I’ll definitely miss the western landscape, but hopefully i’ll be able to travel a lot to make up for it.

I’m also looking forward to sleeping in a new bed, as my current one is horribly uncomfortable. I am not sure i’ve had a good nights sleep since i got it.

no relief in sight

Air conditioning broke again. House is sweltering. Because there are 2 air conditioners, one of the 4 bedrooms has good ac. So last night i slept on my roommates floor. Tonight i am sleeping on the living room floor. My room is way too hot to even attempt sleeping. Even our dog can’t sleep at night it’s so hot in the house.

My next travel destination i’m hoping to visit is Montana, more specifically Glacier National Park. It’s not looking good as far as making the trek before i move home, but at least I know that it’s a place i eventually want to visit. I had no clue until about 2 days ago that Montana would be a place i’d be dying to visit.

Cubs are sucking. Makes it even worse that it’s against the Dbacks so my roommates can trash talk. Oh well, nothing out of the ordinary.

I’m tired, 2 straight nights of lack of sleep. Hope tonight is better.

It’s a cloudy saturday here in the valley of the sun. I’ve yet to go outside, but i think the clouds make me feel less pressure of having to be active outside. Whoops, the sun just came out, now i feel like i should stop being lazy.

I’m really wanting to see the new Batman movie. Hoping to get that done soon. Almost went at midnight thursday night, but was too tired.

Didn’t get to go to Havasupai Falls this weekend. Wanted to, but didn’t have anybody to go to and also just wasn’t prepared. Some other time.

I’m officially moving back to Indiana in September. Excited about that, but also know i will miss living out west. I can always come back though.

I’ve been trying to find a drink other than coke that i enjoy drinking, and that doesn’t taste like straight sugar. I bought some grape Propel and think i may of found my drink of choice.

Hoping to see Greg Norman win the Open tomorrow, that would be pretty cool.

religion smeligion

Just watched the documentary called “Deliver Us From Evil”. It’s about one of the Catholic priests who was convicted of being a child molester. It’s very good and i highly recommend watching it, regardless of your opinion on the church.

Once i was truly old enough to form an opinion and think freely for myself, church became something i thought about often, mainly because i hated having to wake up on Sunday mornings and go. I was raised Catholic, but as soon as i left for college, i quickly stopped going to church for the most part. Partially because of my laziness, and partially because i never got anything out of sitting on a hard bench listening to the exact same old geezer say the exact same thing at 11am every sunday.

As i have gotten even older and hopefully wiser from events in my life, my understanding and beliefs have began to take shape. It truly bothers me that people get so obsessed and argumentative about religion. It’s almost like they are brainwashed into thinking that there can only be one way, and if you don’t believe that one way, then you are eternally screwed. And if somebody things different of you, then they must be wrong. Many people close to me because of my catholic upbringing seem to idolize priests, like they are above the common person and know more about life. That’s amazingly rediculous if you ask me, almost cultish. Wars are started because of religion, which is beyond comprehension to me. Something that always bothered me growing up, even when i was really young, was seeing all these people, some who had very little money, give so much of there money to the church. To me, it’s like if you are going to give your money away, give it to somebody who actually needs it. Don’t give it to an organization so they can redecorate the walls with nicer pictures and fresh paint!

I think my parents generation wasn’t allowed to have an open mind about life or the world, and they assumed that everything there parents did was exactly right. So when it came to religion, they never got to choose what they believed in, they were told what they had to believe in and if they didn’t they would be punished. I might be wrong, but in most cases i doubt it. And that bothers me.

I’m not saying that being a catholic or part of any other religion is a bad thing. If you truly believe in something, and that something gets you through each day, then by all means believe in it. But the motto of my blog and my life for that matter is “to each his own”. So when somebody tries to strongly push their belief onto somebody else, I have a problem with that. It doesn’t make sense to me that as smart and unique as we as humans are, that millions of us could actually believe in the exact same thing. How is that possible? Why does one have to profess their beliefs anyway. To me that seems like it should be something each of us should carry inside us, and not advertise. It’s too personal.

In my perfect world, there wouldn’t be religions. There might be gathering spots in which people could discuss the world, their beliefs, and what they need somebody to help them with either emotionally, spiritually or physically. Like a swap meet of ideas and philosophies for making the world a better place. But to me, if you need to meditate and talk to your higher power, you should be able to do that at home. You shouldn’t have to put money in a basket for an organization to believe in what they believe in.

What’s wrong with just being the best person you know how to be, and hope that how you live your life has a positive impact on everybody you come in contact with? Isn’t that the fundamental message of all religions anyway? So why do we need all of these religious rules that only seem to cause problems and wars?

I rarely come meet people my age or younger anymore who 100% claim to be a certain religion. I’m not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. But usually they are very intelligent people who are capable of forming an opinion, and so i assume they probably have and idea as to why they don’t profess one religion over another.

Interesting to see what i believe 20 years from now, if i look back and read this. Could totally of changed, but hopefully that new thing is getting me through the day.

It’s pretty sad i can’t find anybody who wants to go with me to this place.

sleepy thursday

Posted in random bable with tags , , on July 10, 2008 by Joe Sanders

Woke up a wee bit tired this morning from staying up too late last night. Still tired. Mentally frustrating day at work today, probably aided by the fact that i was tired, but mainly for other reasons. I went for a run after work today and it was probably the best i’ve felt running in a long time. I think it was because I had so much pent up frustration from today that i was able to just run it all out. I need to quit caring.

A bit stormy tonight. Not exactly sure how much it’s actually raining, but it’s super windy and a lot of dark clouds and thunder. It’s supposed to cool down to 95 tomorrow, which will be refreshing.

I’ve had this craving to go to Hawaii of late. Probably not going to happen, but it would be nice. The Havasupai Falls trip next weekend might not happen now because i can’t find anybody to go with. Apparently nobody is excited about hiking 20 miles over the course of a weekend. I might just have to spend a weekend out in nature by myself and with the Indians. Could be a good escape from the daily grind. We’ll see. Maybe i would meet some nice people down there by the falls. I just know i’ll kick myself in the ass if i don’t go. Problem is i don’t really have any camping equipment.

Took some pictures of our 5th roommate Jordy.

Well, another quick 3-day weekend has come and gone. My goal for this weekend was to not spend a lot of money and not to do much, just relax. I did my best on the relaxing part, but somehow managed to spend a lot of money. So much for that. I found myself without much to do on friday, so i decided to build a coffee table.

So i drove over to the Home Depot and found a few things to use to build with. Then i went over to Big Lots and found a few more things to use. I ended up buying some small trash cans and 3 pieces of wood. I glued everything together, making 3 separate small tables that come together to form a coffee table. I also painted them to give it some character, which didn’t turn out so great. But, it gave me something to do and made me feel productive, which is what i was going for. I’m pretty sure they are already falling apart, but hopefully will make it 2 more months until we move out of the house.

I took a bike ride today, tried pushing myself pretty hard to get a solid work out. I took off around 4pm, when it was still super hot outside. I definitely pushed myself about as far as i needed to with how hot it was.

Just watched a movie about Steve Prefontane. That just got me in the spirit to go out and become a better runner.

I normally wouldn’t wake myself up early on a sunday morning to watch a tennis match, but i had a feeling that the Wimbledon final between Nadal and Federer was going to be a douzy. Little did i know that the match was going to last 5 hours(the longest in history), so i could of slept in a bit longer. It was a great match though and one of the better sporting events i have ever seen. It makes you wonder how they haven’t figured out a way to make tennis more popular, as far as getting more people to watch. It’s actually a fun sport to watch if you have a rooting interest for one of the players.
