So i ordered one of those 5$ Pizza Mia’s from Pizza Hut last night. I have had them before and knew going in the taste quality wasn’t exactly very high, but still cheap. I knew normally they don’t have many toppings or cheese, so i decided to order extra sauce. So i get my pizza and it was as if sauce was the only topping they put on there. Felt like i was eating 1 big breadstick with tons of marinara sauce. The pizza was falling apart their was so much sauce on it. But at least it had more flavor then the regular ones i guess. Just don’t ever order one of those thinking the pizza will be any good, cause it’s really not. Although the more I eat them the more I learn to acquire the taste. Good story.

Reading this book about the guy who wrote the Oxford English Dictionary. Apparantley he was insane and wrote most of it from inside an Insane Asylum. At least i think that’s where the book is going to take me. Quite interesting.

I’m hoping by this time next year i will really have a handle on playing the guitar at a halfway decent level. I think it could be a good addition to my life and lifestyle, especially if my brother will all me to jam with him while he plays the piano. Probably be a while before i could ever catch up to him though….probably never will happen actually.

Almost finished watching the only season of “Freaks and Geeks”.  It is really good, not overly funny or anything like that, but a combination of being realistic enough of how it is in high school along with being funny. Haverchuck and the guidance counselor are my favorite characters. Haverchuck is the dude in “knocked up” who grows out his beard the entire movie. I just figured that out.

The Cubs started off the season today in typical cubby fashion, giving up 4 runs total in the 9th and 10th innings to lose. At least Mr. Fukudome’s debut went about as well as it could of possibly went. He is going to turn into a big deal i would assume if he plays well. Can’t believe baseball season is already here. Love it.

I keep having this dream that has this person in it from high school that i really wish would stop. It seems all the dreams i don’t enjoy having involve high school….not being able to find my locker, not remember my lock combination, not knowing which class to go to next.  I always wake up frustratd. Even having the dream of showing up to school with no pants on keeps happening. Maybe something to do with my high school reunion coming up soon. Weird.

I need new swimming trunks. The red and white flowers just aren’t getting it done anymore.

The first two people i had communication with in person early this morning were Brittish and Australian.  I kinda thought maybe i had woken up in a different world or something. It made me realize how much cooler Brittish guys sound than my midwestern american accent. The kid worked at a gas station and yet he still comes off 10 times more distinguished than myself! Maybe i should work on that.

The weekend is here and i sit in an office all day Saturday. Not fun. Tomorrow i plan on getting some sun and going swimming for the first time this year. It’s a rough life i lead.

Tonight the  Band(yet to be named) will be performing live at James’ house on our plastic instruments. Probably going to put on another stellar performance as always. I’m thinking i might need to dress the part though, maybe some really tight pants and, some eye shadow, and frizzed out hair like an 80’s rocker. Ok, maybe not, but seriously what were those guys thinking back then? What was so appealing about trying to look like a girl? Poison

I guess you can say the same thing about many bands these days, as to why the hell do they choose to express themselves with rediculous outfits. I mean Prince….what the hell?

Anyway, should be a fun night as always. Not too mention some good basketball games on in between sets!

dentures would be easier

Went to the dentist again today. They are starting to get to know me real well there. I found out the receptionist who i was interested in is 34 years old and not single. I would of guessed 24, so congrats to her for that. Needless to say that crushes any possible excitement i could ever have in going to the dentist, not that i would turn her down if she was interested. Apparantley my teeth really suck. They had to numb me up again really good on pretty much the entire bottom part of my mouth. So of course as soon as i went back to work after, i had a condo owner sit down with me. As i was talking to her, i accidentally started drooling as i was doing my best to speak because i couldn’t feel my tongue or the bottom part of my face. It was rather embarrassing. My guitar playing is coming along. My fingers now no longer hurt, although i still can’t remotely play anything resembling a song.

Woke up with a sore throat today and feeling tired. Probably due to the late night i assume. Just felt out of sorts today, even took a nap late in the afternoon to try and recover. Been drinking water like a madman today, i guess feeling dehydrated for some reason. Must be getting sick. Definitely didn’t feel like Easter. Probably wouldn’t of even remembered it was hadn’t my sister left me a message wishing me a happy easter. I meant to call the her back and the rest of the fam today, but i realized it was way too late in Indiana by the time i picked up the phone. The 3 hour time difference strikes again, and now i feel bad about it. More visitors to the household this week….this time it’s our pal Justin who moved back to Ohio from Phoenix last fall. Good to see him. I am in serious need of a haircut, but i am seeing how long i can stand it before cutting it.

it’s 1:30am

tonight was annoying if say so myself. Somehow my friends and roommates equate bowling with getting obliterated(meaning really drunk). Normally i don’t complain about things like this since i am used to the fact that i am in the minority of being a non-drinker. But it is absolutely zero fun when you can’t talk to people because they don’t even know what they are saying because they are so drunk.  Hanging out with friends who are having a few beers is fine and dandy, but being around people who are just wasted is pointless because when you are sober, it’s almost like trying to deal with an alien. It makes me feel like i am back in college, in which you expect things like that. But i am 28, and the days of wanting to deal with situations like this are long gone. Not to mention even trying to enjoy $18 bowling is near impossible.  It is almost embarrassing to be honest. I guess my patience in dealing with drunk people is getting very little as i get older. To each his own i say, but sometimes his own isn’t something i enjoy.

Officiating

Posted in life with tags , , , , , on March 22, 2008 by Joe Sanders

I have been watching a lot of basketball the last few days because of the NCAA tournament beginning. It has become very apparant that the officiating in college basketball is down right atrocious. It’s one thing for me to form this opinion based on my favorite team losing, and me taking solace in blaming it on the officials. But in not really having a rooting interest either way in most of these games, that’s not the case. It’s basically comes down to consistency, mainly lack there of. It seems they start having to do make up calls at the beginning of the game, and from then on it’s just a crap shoot as to what call they will make.  I realize it’s not an easy job, but I definitely feel like officials are afraid to make the proper calls sometimes due to maybe making a bad call the previous time. Once the bad calls get rolling, it’s just make-up call after make up call. The aggies of texas a&m just got hosed against UCLA, mainly because the officials were afraid to make the proper call against the #1 seed. That’s my rant for the evening. NCAA needs to do something about the problem.

i need a brownie

Survived the dentist today.  It’s just a place i always dread going to, but they really numbed me up good today, so it’s wasn’t as bad as expected. They almost numbed me too much i think, i was numb about 7 hours later. Not sure if that is normal. The pretty receptionist was working as well, so that made it better. So tonight was my first guitar lesson. I even got new strings. I realized after comparing guitars that mine is messed up, and the strings are too far away from the surface. Meaning, it’s much more difficult to play, and more difficult to position my fingers correctly. But i figure if i can learn to play this one, that a nicer one would be much easier to play. I learned a few chords, and learned how to tune it. Probably will need to relearn how to tune i though, kinda important. I am clueless when i comes to music, but still plan on being a rock star someday.Tomorrow starts the NCAA tournament. All of my roommates took the next 2 days off of work just so they could watch the games all day. I won’t even get to watch the boilers play, so hopefully the win so i can watch them saturday.I got a speeding ticket from one of those roadside cameras. It came in the mail yesterday. Apparantley i was doing 37 in a 25, and now will have to pay $165 dollars because of it. I can run faster than 37 miles an hour….not happy. That was my first ticket ever. It’s hilarious though because they send you a picture of yourself driving the car. Mine showed me talking on the phone with a big smile on my face, as if i knew i was being photographed.Time for more “freaks and geeks”.

kiss me, i’m irish

Posted in life with tags , , , , on March 16, 2008 by Joe Sanders

Not a lot of excitement to write about i guess. Had a pretty lazy weekend which wasn’t bad i guess. Lots of basketball watching due to all of the tournaments going on. This is usually the best time of year to be a sports fan if you ask me. NCAA tournament along with the start of baseball season. Can’t beat it.

St. Patty’s day is tomorrow. Usually a holiday that doesn’t do a whole lot for me since i’m not a drinker. Although being Irish, i guess it means a little something. My mom sent me one of those green lance armstrong bracelets that says “kiss me, i’m irish”. We’ll see what happens.

Getting ready to watch the movie “Michael Clayton”. Hope i can stay awake through it. I am guessing their is a lot of dialogue in this movie. As much as it has been talked about because of the oscar nominations, i actually have no clue as to what it is about. So I guess that isn’t a bad thing and might be able to make more of an unbiased opinion on how good i think it is….not that my opinion really matters.

I do think i would be a pretty good movie reviewer though. What a sweet job that would be. Spend all day long watching movies, and then writing up a review on the movie. I wonder if Ebert needs an intern.

We will have a full house starting tomorrow night. Nick’s little brother and girlfriend are staying with us for 6 nights, meaning there will be 6 of us in the house. Should be fun having him here though.

Have to go to the dentist on wednesday to get a few cavities filled and maybe even a root canal. I am totally dreading it, as the dentist is usually the last place on earth i ever want to be. There is a really good looking girl who works there though, so that’s the only bright side out of the whole deal i guess. I’m sure it will be her day off though. It was comical when i was there last time. It was my first time there, and as i sat in the waiting area for about 20 minutes, 2 different guys who had to settle payment with her totally were hitting on her big time. It was pretty hilarious, especially since they were both about 40 and she is probably 25, but that is Scottsdale for you.

Hope tomorrow is a good start to what is looking to be a pretty eventful week. Time to pop in the movie.

Catholic Guilt

Posted in humor with tags , , , on March 12, 2008 by Joe Sanders

So i came across this blog post today that i found interesting. It was about the new “sins” that the Catholic church came up with this week….which of course stirred up a lot of response because of how many people have such conviction with their own beliefs.

Let me just say, i was raised Catholic, come from a very very very Catholic family, but haven’t really gone to church in a long time(of course majorly dissapointing my mother to no end…which i think she has learned to live with, or maybe not). Anyway, to me, no matter what you believe, as long as you live your life being the best person you can be, that’s all that really matters regardless of what religious organization you are giving money to.

Back to the point of this blog entry….I found one of the comments on the other blog i was reading to be pretty hilarious even though it is a bit of Catholic bashing, but something no matter what you believe, you still gotta get a bit of a chuckle at. Here is the comment by Tim R:

“On a lighter note, I think the Pope is trying his hand at some business theory, in regard to supply vs. demand. He’s worried that less and less people are going to confession these days. So he’s increasing the supply of sins, to increase the confessional patronage. It’s like there’s a 50% sale on Sins at the Vatican. You can get two sins for the price of one, and still get to feel that smooth refreshing brand of Catholic guilt.”

Well, i got a laugh out of it anyway.  Mom? Kudos to Tim R.

take a sad song, and make it better

Remember, to let her in to your heart, then you will sta-art, to make it…better better better better better better aaaahhhhh. Na, na, na nananana, nananana, hey Jude.  Feeling a wee bit homesick right now. Something about the Beatles makes me always think about home. I just finished watching the movie/musical “across the universe”. Pretty good, not for everybody i’m sure, mainly a few of my roomates, but pretty good. I sometimes wish i had a British accent. Supposedly tomorrow night will be my first guitar lesson. Kinda excited/nervous about that. Need to restring the guitar first though. That’s all he wrote.
