College Football is officially still awesome, but lacks sense.

If there were ever a year when they could of had a David vs. Goliath in the national title game for college football, this would of been the year.  You have a bunch of 2 loss teams battling it out to see who is the best 2 loss team. Nobody really knows, so the media talk started and LSU came out on top.

Then you have 12-0 Hawaii sitting there with arguably the best quarterback in the country, and maybe the best trio of recievers in the country. …And because they don’t play in one of the powerhouse conferences, they are relegated to play Georgia in a BCS bowl. Now, this isn’t such a bad thing for a school like Hawaii to get to play in a BCS bowl. But to me, if they are good enough to play in a BCS bowl, then why not just stick them in the title game since they are the only undefeated?  If you can rank a 12-0 team in the top ten, then why couldn’t they be ranked in the top 5, or even top 3, or top 2? Is there really that big of a difference between the 2 loss Georgia and the 2 loss LSU? So why not just pit Hawaii against Ohio St.? To me, that is a game that everybody would want to watch. Because think about it, regardless of who wins the supposed title game this year, does it really feel like they are the National Champ? I mean, Ohio St. just got beat by Illinois a few weeks ago, and LSU just got beat by Arkansas. But all of the sudden those 2 teams are the best teams in the country? What if Hawaii were to beat Ohio St. in the title game? Wouldn’t that legitimize there season and give them the right to stake claim as the #1 team in the country? Well, maybe not. But that’s only because nobody really knows who is better than anybody else this year, and for all we know Ohio St. is just a product of the weak Big 10. Hell, there schedule was probably easier than Hawaii’s this year!

So in summary, College football needs to either go with a playoff system, or stop crowning somebody the national champ, when in reality any number of team in a lot of years could play in the title game. Or figure up a way to change how the regular season is played, so that conferences play more games against other conferences…and their isn’t such a guessing game at the end of the year as to who is better.

  1. they need to use a playoff system I agree! There needs to be a clear-cut winner, similar to NCAA basketball.
